RV Classes Explained

One of the first things you'll notice when you start shopping for an RV is how many different types there are. Just looking across the Client inventory can be overwhelming. Finding the right one for you starts with knowing your RV types and classes and how each one would fit into your life on the road (or at a permanent location). Here are all of the most common types of RVs and campers, with a brief explanation of each:
- Class A – A large, luxurious, and fully-equipped motorhome that's ideal for families or individuals who want to travel long-term. Class A motorhomes are often equipped with six wheels and a full cab.
- Class B – A compact, fuel-efficient, and easy-to-drive RV that's ideal for couples or solo travelers. Class B motorhomes are also known as camper vans and are typically 18–21 feet long.
- Class C – A mid-sized RV that's a good balance of comfort, space, and ease of driving. Class C motorhomes are built on a van chassis and are often the most rented type of RV.
- Travel Trailer – A towable home that comes in a wide range of sizes and layouts. Travel trailers are a good option for travelers who already own a vehicle that can tow.
- Fifth Wheel – A type of RV trailer that doesn't have an engine and needs to be towed. Fifth wheels have a different hitch than most RV trailers and typically require a large truck to tow them.
- Toy Hauler – A type of travel trailer or fifth wheel that has a garage addition to store gear.
- Park Model – A smaller, more compact RV that's designed for long-term or permanent living.
- Pop-Up Camper – A type of RV that partially folds down when in transit and "pops up" when it reaches its destination.
- Truck Camper – A rugged, compact RV that's designed to slide directly into the bed of a pickup truck. Truck campers are a good option for adventurous campers who value maneuverability over amenities.
- Teardrop Trailer – A small, towable RV with a distinct "teardrop" shape that's ideal for shorter camping trips.
