Towable Showdown—Fifth Wheel vs. Travel Trailer

by Client

Choosing your next home on wheels can be difficult with so many styles, options, sizes, and more. The Client team is here to break down the differences and guide you toward the perfect camper or RV for all your new adventures. For those who want a towable RV, there are two main categories, each with its own benefits.

Which one is larger?

A fifth-wheel camper is typically larger. Thanks to the way it attaches to your truck, fifth-wheel campers can be much larger, to take full advantage of higher towing capacities. It’s perfect for RVers who want maximum space and comfort in a towable camper. The caveat is that you will need a truck with properly rated towing and a fifth-wheel receiver to use a fifth-wheel camper. If your tow vehicle is an SUV, you’ll have to stick to a travel trailer. Don’t worry, though, you can still pack plenty of space and luxury into a travel trailer as well.

Which one is better for off-road terrain?

Because fifth-wheel trailers are larger and usually taller, a travel trailer is perfect for those who want to camp off the beaten path. Travel trailers can be as small as a teardrop trailer, up to about 35 feet long.

Which one is easier to drive?

That all depends! Both fifth-wheel campers and travel trailers are easy to tow once you get familiar with the basics. The key is to choose a camper that is a perfect balance between at-camp comfort and on-road towing while staying within your tow vehicle’s limits.

Our incredible sales team can show you which campers would be best suited for your vehicle and make sure it checks off all your boxes when it comes to a great camping experience. Contact us today to explore your next RV.
